Sources of Copper

Following on from our previous posts on Copper Toxicity Syndrome, I would like to talk about some sources of copper in our world.

For me, one of the biggest copper sources was the mining town where I used to live, as it is the biggest copper mine in Australia.

Sources of copper include:

  • Airborne copper
  • Congenital high copper (children born with high copper or low zinc)
  • Zinc deficiency
  • High-copper diets
  • Copper pipes
  • Mineral deficiencies
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Adrenal weakness
  • Liver sluggishness or toxicity
  • Metallothionein or other copper transport imbalances

Other sources include:

  • using copper cookware
  • copper exposure from dental materials
  • vitamin pills
  • jewelry
  • drinking water
  • fungicide and pesticide residues on food
  • copper intra-uterine devices and birth control pills

While there are several methods for detecting copper – blood, feces, urine and hair testing – most of these are not accurate enough as they miss copper that is hidden deep within bodily organs. Hair testing appears to be the best method of detecting all forms of copper imbalance.

Nutritional Balancing Program

One of the best ways to improve a copper imbalance is a complete nutritional balancing program. The key components of this program include:

  1. Reducing exposure to sources of copper.
  2. Diet modification including eating a high percentage of cooked vegetables (instead of raw vegetables), reducing sugar intake including fruits and removing stimulants including caffeine and food additives.
  3. Lifestyle modification including reducing stress and fear and living a calmer lifestyle.
  4. Seeking advice about nutritional supplements for adrenal gland restoration and copper balance and enhancing energy production.
  5. Investigating detoxification procedures including enemas and near infrared lamp sauna.

Meditation and balancing lifestyle factors are crucial for people with a copper imbalance. Copper toxic people can be highly sensitive, emotional and angry. It is important to let go of the anger and stress. This may mean changes in work, relationships and location. Meditation can help with all of this.

Detox Symptoms

As with any detoxification process, there may be symptoms that occur. These symptoms can include:

  • headaches
  • skin rashes
  • racing thoughts
  • strange odors
  • digestive upset
  • mood swings, and
  • energy fluctuations

Testicular pain in men is not uncommon and women’s periods may be affected. Certain supplements can help temporarily reduce these symptoms while the detoxification process happens.
